Travel – A real recreation

Travel will certainly be the best way for recreation! Travel can take different forms like by foot, by vehicle either private or public and muscle – powered on land, air and water. In technical terms, it could be defined as the mobility of people from one place to another by utilizing some form of transport.

Travel is one thing that becomes popular every day in the contemporary world. Historically, people would take days to travel few kilometers, and hence the term “to toil” described the travelling then. The word travel was originated by the Anglo-French word “travail”, which means “to toil”. However, with the increasingly developing world, toiling has been replaced with super fast travelling with ships, high speed jets, cars like the Bugatti, altering the historical definition of travel! In fact, travelling from one part of the world to the other would take a matter of some hours now, yet depending on the form of transportation used. It has become very easy, faster and at the same time very important! Easy, due to the advancement of transportation and globalization while important, due to the increased expectation of physical presence for various occasions due to its ease and speed!

Travel could be classified into two main categories of reasons; business and travel for recreational purposes. Nevertheless, it must be remembered that travel can have many other reasons like migrating to settle in another country or as consequence of expatriate employment, fleeing due to war, studies, exploration and so forth.

Business travel has been so prominent due to the globalization, spread of business partners and subsidiaries all over the world. But, as the world develops and the technology advances, physical presence to conduct business is becoming less and less important. Advancements like tele-conferencing, video-conferencing, webinars, email, internet etc. have replaced the physical form with a film form, enabling discussions as if each participant is physically present. The only difference is, it happens in a virtual environment, where solid physical environment is no longer necessary. Hence, it could be said that as the world develops, travel would be more emphasized on other reasons than business travel.

Travel for recreational purposes, the next broadest component and also the one that would be more prominent as the future times to come. Recreational travel could be as part of tourism or visiting friends and family which is sometimes referred to as “the popular global leisure activity”. This type takes up a large portion of international travel. Even historically, most wealthy people travelled to far away lands to get a taste of different cultures and cuisines, to witness exceptionally unique and beautiful artworks, great buildings, learn new languages etc. In the olden days, it was very difficult for the lesser wealthy people to travel. However, contrastingly more people can afford such travel in the current day with high living-standards. Many people go out of their countries or further away in their countries to “take a break” from monotony of their lives and have a nice time; hence, travel – a Real Recreation!
